Some History Behind the Church and Ministry

New Covenant Church

This portion of the site is devoted to let you know more about how Acts America came to be. Throughout this section you will find information concerning the history of New Covenant Outreach, from the early years in a renovated hotel room in downtown Goldsboro to its current resting place on the corner of Herman and Mulberry Streets in Goldsboro. We have a lot to boast in, yet nothing outside of the Cross of Christ.

In an age marked by big ministries, big names and big buildings, we have watched the Lord take us down a path that runs directly counter-culture to those trends. We've never intentionally sought to flee these things and yet it seems to be the lot for anyone who desires to maintain the Gospel Truth in the hour we live. The outcome of the Lord's direction for our ministry has made us stick out like a sore thumb. Very much a fledgling band of soldiers drowned out amidst the legions of giants in the land that sing and shout with loud voices from sea to sea...

Yet that has been the case throughout God's history. The Lord has taken his people through situations that seemed absolutely insurmountable in the flesh. Through times when success looked completely reserved for the enemy. In those times, the people of God cried out! Whether it be by bareness or by reason of their affliction, God has always had a people who desperately needed Him. When nothing of this world's system can lull and satisfy anymore, men get desperate and become intercessors.

The understanding that a man is nothing more than his prayer life has fueled everything we do here. Men coming into the Jacob House have historically been faced with life crippling bondages that can only be broken by an Almighty, prayer answering God. You can find a large part of the fellowship in the hours of prayer before every service and nightly at six o'clock seeking the heart of God. No property owned by the ministry today has ever come by any other means than prayer. Why so much corporate prayer?

Fifteen years of prayer later, New Covenant Outreach is known by a one time abandoned corner block that now has become a source of beauty and inspiration to the community. Over those years the property has become a fully restored House of Worship, renovated parsonage, and two houses for discipleship that once housed drug use and prostitution. Above any physical property though, the greatest effect of prayer has been individuals changed by God. Those once dead in sins and trespasses have heard the Word of the Cross and are now alive to God through Christ.

New Covenant Outreach from its inception has been about the person of Christ and his dealings with individuals. This ministry was never created to be numbers oriented, but to bring glory Jesus as we decrease and put away our fleshly maneuverings. In continued pursuit of the Man, Jesus Christ our leadership heard a call from heaven to open a School of Pentecost. Such a call required more funds than a small congregation could ever hope to meet, but God through prayer graciously poured out enough finances. Money from contributors has been used to completely pay off the obligation owed on the church and discipleship properties, as well as 74 acres of land, determined to be the official location of Acts America School of Pentecost.
